This weekend I converted my blog to run on WordPress - a publishing system built on PHP and MySQL. I had previously been using Blogger for posts and Haloscan for comments, along with a bunch of custom PHP scripts to integrate the two and provide extra functionality such as RSS feeds.
While this was working (suprisingly well actually!) it was clearly not an ideal solution and I had been looking for an integrated solution. The obvious answer was Movable Type, but I wanted a PHP-based rather than a Perl-based solution. Then I discovered WordPress and it was exactly what I was looking for.

The install was not as smooth as it could have been due to a bug in the code, but a visit to the support forum fixed that problem and the rest of the setup was easy. Configuring WordPress was also very simple and it comes with a script to import your posts from other blogging tools including Blogger. Everything is now up and running and some of the new features are trackback and pingback support, a comments RSS feed and post categories - look for more in the future.
All in all, I am extremely happy with WordPress and highly recommend it.
