I “watched” the Arsenal v Chelsea and Monaco v Real Madrid Champions League quarter-finals on Sporting Life’s text commentary today. The text commentary did not do either game justice, I am sure, but it was unbelievably exciting nevertheless. It is times like this that I wish I was either unemployed or back in England so I could watch the games!
Not to sound too immodest, but I did pick Chelsea to do well in the Champions League this year (despite my Dad’s reservations) although I must admit to doubting my pick given Arsenal’s recent form in the Premiership. It also sounded like John Terry had an impressive game at the back for Chelsea, which could well cement him as the number one choice to partner Sol Campbell at the back for England in Rio Ferdinand’s absence.
In America
For those of you on the other side of the pond who have no idea what the hell I have just been talking about: let’s talk baseball. Barry Bonds did it again for the San Francisco Giants, hitting a home-run in the eighth inning to tie the game against the Houston Astros on Monday night. The San Francisco Chronicle described it best:
“The good people of the Bay Area have seen it so many times, it hardly shocks the senses. The same goes for seasoned National League players. However, it’s always fun to gauge the reaction of a newbie who is not accustomed to watching Barry Bonds grab a game by the yoke and steer it in any direction he chooses.”
This was Bonds’ 659th career home run, leaving him just one behind his godfather Willie Mays for third on the all-time list. However, until baseball wakes up and sorts out it’s drug testing procedures there will be doubts about whether this is a legitimate record or not.

A bad result for Chelsea at the weekend. They need to win every match and have Arsenal lose a few too. I’d guess second place for Chelsea in the Prem and fingers crossed for better luck in the CL. If only all the games were like this one:

By the way, the Web Developer extention is massively useful - many thanks.
