First thing I checked when I got to work. You made my day :-)
Thanx a lot for your great work !!
woo hoo … very cool. thanks a lot. now i can start using ff 1.5 :)
Nice!
I think WebDeveloper is THE excuse for convincing developers to leave the Explorer swamp… WD together with HTML Validator has made my life so much easier.
Thanks a lot!

You rock! Donation is on it’s way.
Thanks a lot! Your toolbar is definitely the best thing that could ever happen to web designers!
Good job, now I can start using Beta 1.5 on all of the PCs I have access to! Yay! Thanks! ^^
Thanks for the release. Ever since I started using 1.5, the look didn’t look right without this extension… it sorta looked naked…. hahah… but now that it’s out, it Firefox won’t look that bizarre to me. :)
Keep up the good work. :)
Perko said it right:

= the best for web development.
Thanks for making a great platform even greater, Chris.
Hey Chris,
Have you seen this post on the IE Blog: Hello from LA!.
Look at the bottom of the article:
Finally, in recognition of the need for great web developer tools, we are just about to beta a Web Developer Toolbar that provides web developers with rich object model and visual tools which will help them design standards-based HTML and CSS web pages. This feature will be delivered as an add-on for IE6+.
Thanks for the update. It seems that the “disable images” feature not work in this release.
Thanks Chris. This is, in my opinion, THE EXTENSION for Firefox. I installed FF 1.5 without realizing the compatibility wouldn’t be there, and found myself lost in a world that was cold, dark, and hopeless. Thaks for shining the light again!
Kamiel - I hadn’t seen that, but it sounds interesting.
Mario - ‘Disable Images’ is working fine for me. What version of Firefox is it not working in and what is the behavior you are seeing?
Chris, I use the official Firefox 1.5 Beta 1. If I click on ‘Disable images’ (either on menu or toolbar) the page is being reloaded but the images are still displayed. In the WDT the according checkbox is checked but in the options dialog of FF ‘Load images’ is still checked.
Mario - you are right, ‘Disable Images’ is no longer working in Firefox 1.5 Beta although it does work in Firefox 1.0.6. I’ll fix this for the next release.
Hrm. After upgrading the toolbar (in Ff 1.5 beta official build Win), it *appears*, but all the buttons and menu options are greyed out.
Things I’ve tried without success:
* Uninstalling the toolbar and installing it again
* Resetting options - the options dialog works fine - to default [note: I don’t think I’d changed them before anyway]
* Turning on the ‘web developer’ gear icon on a Ff toolbar and clicking it a few time
Things I haven’t tried that would probably work:
* Making a new profile ;)
Probably just my problem though…
Sam - please see the FAQ.
Yey Chris.
Thank you SO much for making this compatible, Chris. I’ve been living without it for almost half a year now, as I’ve been doing development work on the beta, and it hurt me almost physically. Now my browser finally feels complete again. Good on yer!
Heh! This ‘Disable Images’ bug is cute… really!
It doesn’t do anything until you close FF 1.5 beta and open it again. At that point, the images ARE disabled in Firefox>Tools>Options>Content. To restore the images, that’s where you have to go to enable them…
No big deal, but it is funny! :)
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.8b4) Gecko/20050915 (No IDN) Firefox/1.4
Thanks Chris,
Your effort is much appreciated
VinDSL - What happened is that they changed the preference name that is used for disabling images so the feature changes the wrong preference. However, on startup I think they have code that migrates the old preference to the new one which is why it then gets picked up.
Obviously I have fixed this for the next release.
That’s cool, Chris!
Once again, I didn’t mean this as a criticism. I really DID think it was funny!
I tested the ‘Disable Image’ feature early in the day. Yep, it didn’t do anything… Then, I closed FF 1.5, opened Mozilla and went about my business.
Several hours later, I downloaded the FF nightly, installed it, opened it up, and *BOOM* the images were gone. I thought, “What the heck?”
It was, like, 3:00AM when this happened and I wasn’t thinking too swiftly. At that time of morning, everything seems kinda funny, you know?
When I finally figured out what was going on, I LMAO, literally. That was a good one… really! :)
Hehe - yeah, I didn’t take it as a criticism.
I just wanted to give some more info about what the problem is - it’s always annoying when they change the preference names, as much as anything because I have to support both preferences if I want the extension to be backwards compatible.
Duh, apologies for my FAQd question above. I had read the FAQ, but assumed that it referred to the ‘gear’ icon that turns the toolbar on and off.
Guess what - my browser window default size is just fractionally small enough that the ‘disable toolbar’ button (which for anyone else reading who hasn’t spotted it, is all the way over at the right) is not visible. Make it a bit bigger, and voila, I can turn it on… doh.
Thanks :)

You are the men!
Hello Chris !
first, thank you very much for a tool i use every day. It actually help me stick to firefox, it’s the main argument (love the “resize” functionality / validators, topographic information is excellent too !)
i do have a feature request, is this the right place to send it to ?
here is my idea: to have a ruler appear on the borders of the viewport, giving precise pixel graduation, from 0 to … much like the one in adobe photo$hop.
and do you think having draggable guides a possibility ? this would help because usually the functionality to show element sizes renders badly, unreadable if you have many nested or position-fixed elements that are very close to each other. if you need to contact me, please have a go at my site, contact info is in the “about” page.
again, thank you very much for this outstanding tool !
‘Display Ruler’ has already been built for the next release. See the to-do list.
great ! when do you plan to release it ? do you need testers ?
Please see this previous post.
Hey, Chris, I hate to tell you this, but I’m ‘spanking’ the SeaMonkey 1.0 Alpha release now, and Web Developer is doing the same thing, with SeaMonkey, as it *was* doing with Firefox beta 1 — disables images but won’t re-enable them, et cetera.
I’ve only been playing with SeaMonkey for a few hours, but ‘they’ have undoubtedly changed the calls again. SeaMonkey is basically a Firefox 1.5 core with an improved Mozilla user interface. It’s going to replace the Mozilla Suite, so you might want to check it out, if you haven’t already.

Anyway, wanted to drop you a line and let you know… :)
This is to be expected as Seamonkey uses the same base as Firefox 1.5. This will be fixed in the next release.
Hi,
First, I’d like to thank Chris for a wonderful tool that’s saved me hours of development time. Unfortunately, when I upgraded to FireFox 1.5 beta 2 and re-enabled Web Developer, many JavaScript popups would cause an error if the toolbar was enabled. I’ve only been able to isolate it to a problem with the Web Developer extension (by selectively shutting off extensions and restarting). If you’d like, I can send an email with the error messages I’m receiving. Has anyone else encoountered this issue?
Mark - this sounds like this bug which is not actually directly related to Web Developer. Hopefully it will be fixed for the final Firefox 1.5 release.
Great extension - I use it all the time for FF! When (or if) will it be compatible with Netscape 8?? As a webmaster I have many different browsers installed that I use all the time for compatibility testing, and I sure hate that even the latest version of Netscape doesn’t support the two main extensions I need: AdBlock & WebDeveloper. :(
‘Add support for Netscape’ is already on the to-do list. I cannot guarantee when any feature will be completed as I only work on the extension in my free time. All I can say is it will be supported in some future version.
Chris, many thanks for the great Web Developer extension itself and also for the latest update! ;)
Thanks for your great work !
Great work. I just wonder if you could include an option to remove flash animations too in the next release. That would be really cool!
‘Disable Flash’ is already on the to-do list.
I [heart] Web Developer Toolkit. I’m having trouble with my FF 1.5 and the disable images feature… the images don’t disable!
Helo, Please
Disable Images looks like is broken? When can this be fixed? Thankyou.
pen - umm…please read the two comments directly above yours!
This release rocks ! Long life to Web Developer !
