Never Leave A Game Early
Last weekend I watched Stanford play football against UCLA with Alex and Claire. Alex and I had no allegiance to either team, but Claire - as a UCLA alumna - was firmly rooting for the Bruins.
We watched for three and a half quarters while the Cardinal dominated the Bruins, and with Stanford about to take a 24-3 lead Claire told us that it was time to leave. We thought nothing more of it until later that evening when Courtney told us that the Bruins had made a miraculous comeback and won the game. ESPN wrote in their game recap:
UCLA has specialized in fantastic finishes...but none was as dramatic or unlikely as the Bruins' escape from Stanford Stadium.
The moral of the story? Never leave a game early!
So I leave you with a few photos from the first three quarters of the UCLA Bruins at the Stanford Cardinal.

Well, it just goes to show that sometimes even the most die-hard fans (e.g. my sister Claire) don't have the stomach to watch their fave team go under big time a la Titanic.
However, this little story also illustrates the sweet reward that comes only to those fans faithful to the end, who show up rain or shine, who watch every last few minutes of a game just because they care. Ahh, the injustice that accrues to those less fervent for their team. Sometimes, without the love, you just miss out.
