Increased Spam

A few months ago I posted about a couple of measures that I had taken to combat spam. At the time I wrote:
I do not get too much spam on this site...
However, since then the amount of spam has been steadily increasing and this week the spammers began targeting the forums.
Akismet has been near perfect in preventing comment spam so far - with only one spam comment let through and one false positive - despite the increase in spam comments.
Forums
However, the forums were unprotected and had slid under the radar up until this point. I use PunBB for my forums and had been getting away with allowing anonymous guest posting, but in the last few days a number of spam posts have started appearing.
So I have now been forced to disable guest posting in the forums. You can still read all the forums as a guest, but you will need to register before posting. I apologize for having to change this, but you can thank the spammers.
