Web Developer 1.1.5 and User Agent Switcher 0.6.11

Bizarrely (and rather embarrassingly) this is an almost identical post to my last post over 10 months ago. New versions of the Web Developer and User Agent Switcher extensions have been released. These releases are mainly to add support for the upcoming Firefox 3, but also contain a few other bug fixes.

And just like my last post I have redesigned my site - I think everything is working, but let me know if you see anything broken. Maybe I will actually write some posts describing some of the new features like I promised last time.

  1. “View source with” is still not working.

  2. Web Developer was one of the extensions I was waiting for before I could switch to Firefox 3! Thanks for updating it :)

    Confirmed.

  4. I’ll look into fixing ‘View Source With’ for a future release.

  5. All I have is a blank toolbar. There were other updates yesterday so I disabled all addons except WDT. Still no love.

Can you make the last version available? I’d like to revert and see if this helps.

    Thank you.

  6. Hi,

thank you very much 4 FF3 Support.

I love you great tool!!! ;)

    Nice wishes,

  7. Not sure if this is a bug or what but did you fix the issue where if you have outline current element selected, you can’t type the letter “c”?

  8. Galen — See this forum post which also applies to the ‘Outline Current Element’ feature. I haven’t had a chance to turn this off yet, but will be doing so in a future release.

  9. oh, interesting, i remember a bunch of times when i was thinking “man i wish i could copy the path”

  10. There is also a bug in the current release in FF3b4 that Command + Shift + S (on a mac) will only disable All Styles and not toggle them. Clicking on the option in the fly-out menu, however, works as expected.

  11. Art Vandelay — Good catch. I’ll fix this in the next release.

  12. Thanks for keeping alive this very awesome tool. I wouldn’t know what to do without it!

  13. Chris, I read the FAQ. Guess what? You’re a genius. I am not. Thank you.

  14. Like someone said before, this extension was the only reason I haven’t switched to FF3 yet — now I can, thank you

  15. When I had “Display Image Paths” enabled, I used to be able to right-click on the text and choose “View Image” whereas I no longer seem to be able to do that.

  16. Pete — Nothing has changed with that feature and I am still able to do as you describe so I’m not sure why it’s not working for you.

  17. Just wanted to say thank you. I’ve been using the web developer toolbar for awhile and could not imagine working without it. It is a wonderful gift to all developers!

  18. I get the following error when I try to download the extension:

InternalErrorWe encountered an internal error. Please try again.6A313A7C8F3BAF36AhJTP2UjmiHJbVRB01jx6DlJyVODPVVCCtpdWW+8WcZCSpLSbP6oAHvIzdtUQPKq

  19. Peter — Please read the help.

  20. Beta 5 available! Updating required :)

    MarkApril 2, 2008 @ 09:53
  21. Mark — The extensions on my site support all versions of Firefox 3 and work fine with Beta 5. I have also just updated the versions on Firefox Add-ons to support Beta 5.

  22. I see I spoke too early. Srry :) Keep up the good work.

    MarkApril 3, 2008 @ 10:29
  23. I just installed 3.0b5 and the “Display Element Information” feature does not work properly. The keyboard shortcut (at least on the Mac version; I’m using Leopard 10.5.2) does not work properly. It will turn it on, but not off, and the component inspector shows up twice, but the second instance does not work (it shouldn’t even be there).

Cheers if it’s a quick fix… It’s the tool I use the most. Can’t thank you enough for this addon.

    BrendanApril 4, 2008 @ 10:01
  24. Brendan — First of all, ‘Keyboard shortcuts do not toggle features correctly’ is already on the known issues list.

As for there being two instances — are you sure there is not a frame or iframe on the page? This is how the feature has always worked — there is one instance for each frame.

  25. Thanks for the quick response and no, I am positive there is not an iframe. It does it for every single site, and I am aware of the iframe behavior :)

I can send you a screenshot if you’d like?

    BrendanApril 4, 2008 @ 10:20
  26. One thing to add; the double inspector behavior is inconsistent. It appears on some sites, and not on others.

Gmail is one notable one that triggers it.

    BrendanApril 4, 2008 @ 10:22
  27. Brendan — I’m not seeing this in Gmail or other sites without iframes so it sounds like something strange is happening on your machine. You might want to see if it still happens with a new profile.

If that doesn’t fix it, please take this to the forums as the comments are not the place for extension support.

  28. Your toolbar is great, it is one of main reasons why I am using Firefox at all. :) Is it possible to integrate a tool that tracks adsense publishers into your toolbar? It can show number of sites with adsense that belongs to same owner.

    owner spyApril 12, 2008 @ 17:16
  29. owner spy — This is something that makes more sense as a separate extension. I do not have time to take this on, but you could try posting in the MozillaZine forums to see if someone there is interested in doing it.

  30. When can we expect ff3 rc1 support? Thanks

    MartinMay 18, 2008 @ 03:42
  31. Martin… Get it here:

    Don’t try through FF site.

    Curious GeorgeMay 18, 2008 @ 05:02
  32. Actually there are some problems with the extension on Firefox 3 RC1 and I am working on a patch release. I hope to release the patch soon.
