Illegal Videos

All of my videos on chrispederick.com are uploaded to YouTube and then displayed on my site using the YouTube API. This works well since it allows me to deliver the videos through Flash so that they can play on the majority of computers and reduces the bandwidth usage on my site, while the loss in quality is not a big issue since the videos are not exactly stunning works of art!

However, in the last year I have had three videos removed by YouTube for copyright infringement under the DMCA.

Pillow Fight

pillow fight - february 2006 A couple of weeks ago Laughing Squid posted about a pillow fight in San Francisco planned for February 14th. Not only did this sound fun, but I figured that it would be a good opportunity to take some amusing photos.

So I headed down to Justin Herman Plaza after work not really knowing what to expect...I was in for quite a surprise!

Fleet Week Photos & Videos

fleet week - october 2005 I have finally uploaded my photos and videos from Fleet Week. It was definitely a lot busier than previous years - most likely due to the addition of the Red Bull Air Race.

Photo Bonanza

I have returned from an unexpectedly long vacation so expect to see updates to this site resume.

The first update is a number of new photo albums from my vacation along with some photos of the San Francisco Symphony in Dolores Park from my first weekend back. I have also added some new videos from my vacation and uploaded new versions of the old videos that have been (badly) edited in iMovie HD.

I did not spend my entire vacation laying around either, so expect a Web Developer status update soon...

I spent a very nice Christmas in Tahoe with Sam, Amy and Amy's family, and I have uploaded a bunch of photos and a video of us singing "Sleigh Ride".

Lor and Ian also uploaded some photos to Ofoto of their Christmas & New Year's Eve.

Finally, I have also uploaded a few photos from dinner with Dave & Kristy.

Harry Potter

harry potter and the prisoner of azkaban I saw Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban on the IMAX last night and it was very good.

I enjoyed the first two films - even though they were not great films - because I had read the books and it was fun to see them brought to the big screen. This film, though, is undoubtedly the best of the series so far. Large parts of the book were cut - something which is going to be an issue for all the future films in the series as the books continue to get longer - but the film holds together pretty well. This film is also more mature than the first two and the acting of the main three characters continues to improve from film to film.

I have not read Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix yet as I have been waiting for it to come out in paperback, but I already have it in my Amazon wish list ready to pick up when it is released on August 10.

Genius

I have just returned from the cinema having seen Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and what an absolutely unbelievable film it is. Charlie Kaufman (Adaptation, Being John Malkovich) delivers another unconvential and stunning screenplay, and the acting of both Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet is fantastic.

One of the more interesting trailers before the film was for Garden State: a film written, directed and starring Zach Braff of Scrubs fame. It received good reviews from the Sundance Film Festival and will be released this summer.

Awards

I finally saw The Return Of The King last weekend...what a fantastic achievement of Peter Jackson's. Here's hoping that he gets the recognition he so richly deserves at the Oscars following on from his success at The Golden Globes. It was also great to see The Office win two awards (Television Series - Musical Or Comedy, Actor In A Leading Role - Musical Or Comedy Series) at The Golden Globes in categories traditionally dominated by the major American comedies. The nomination of Keisha Castle-Hughes for an Oscar as Actress In A Leading Role was also deserving after her amazing performance in Whale Rider.

Confusing and Enchanting

I signed back up for Netflix - which, for those that haven't heard of it, is an online DVD movie rental service that allows you to rent all the DVDs you want for $20 a month. I am really getting back into it and recently saw two excellent films - Mulholland Dr. and Spirited Away. Mulholland Dr. is a typical David Lynch film which had me utterly confused for about two hours before the last 20 minutes just left my head spinning. Spirited Away is an enchanting movie from Japan and unsurprisingly rated the best animated film ever. I highly recommend both and keep an eye on my "currently" section for what else I am watching.
