Web Developer Help
- Why are the 'DOM Inspector' and 'View Style Information' features disabled?
-
The 'DOM Inspector' and 'View Style Information' features require the DOM Inspector and if it is not available then the feature is automatically disabled.
- The DOM Inspector for Firefox 3 is now available as an extension.
-
To install the DOM Inspector in older versions of Firefox reinstall the browser choosing the 'Custom' and 'Developer Tools' options.
If you already have the DOM Inspector installed in older versions of Firefox then uninstall the browser and delete any files left behind in the folder where the browser was installed before reinstalling the browser choosing the 'Custom' and 'Developer Tools' options.
Reinstalling the browser will not lose any of your settings as they are stored in your profile in a separate location.
- Will you change some of the icons?
-
No. The icons are by famfamfam and new icons cannot be created. You can change the icons yourself using userChrome.css.
No support is provided for changing the icons.
- Why do some of the keyboard shortcuts not work?
- The keyboard shortcuts are configurable through the extension options. Check that the chosen shortcuts are not conflicting with other shortcuts used in the extension, other extensions or the browser itself.
- Will you add a new resize dimension or tool to the defaults?
- No. The extension allows the user to configure the list of resize dimensions and tools. The defaults are provided purely as examples.
-
The toolbar is customizable and some or all of the buttons may need to be added from the customize palette:
- Right-click on the toolbar and choose 'Customize...'.
- Drag any missing buttons from the 'Customize Toolbar' window to the toolbar or click 'Restore Default Set' and click 'Done'.
- How can I hide the toolbar?
-
In Firefox/Flock:
- From the menu bar select 'View'.
- Select 'Toolbars'.
- Select 'Web Developer Toolbar'.
In Seamonkey:
- From the menu bar select 'View'.
- Select 'Show/Hide'.
- Select 'Web Developer Toolbar'.
- What does the 'Persist Features' option do?
- Except for the 'Disable' features, most of the features in the Web Developer extension are reset by default when the page refreshes. By enabling the 'Persist Features' option the features will remain active even when the page refreshes.
- Why do the check marks not display next to the features when using a non-default theme?
- This is an issue with the theme, not the extension. This forum post describes the problem and how to fix it in the theme code.
- Why is the extension localized and how can the localizations be updated?
-
Starting with version 1.1.7 the standard and localized builds have been combined to streamline the build and release process.
All the localizations are created by third-parties using BabelZilla and are integrated into the build as they are released. If you wish to create or update the localizations please use BabelZilla.
No support is provided for the localizations since they are created by third-parties.
- Why does feature 'X' not work in a nightly, alpha, beta or release candidate browser build?
- Nightly, alpha, beta and release candidate browser builds are not supported. If you see the same problem with a milestone build then please post the issue in the forums or contact me.
- What should I do if my question is not covered here?
- Please post the question in the forums or contact me.
